Kevin McHale: Co-Hosting The Teen Choice Awards Is ‘Exciting’ & ‘Terrifying’

Kevin McHale was just announced as the co-host of the Teen Choice Awards (alongside Demi Lovato) and he admitted he’s a little nervous.

“It’s very, very, very exciting — also terrifying,” the actor who plays Artie on “Glee” told AccessHollywood.com at Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego on Saturday.

“Demi was doing it and I happened to join, so it’s nice enough that she let me do that,” he added. “I don’t want to mess up her show. It’s her show, I will contribute what I can.”

Kevin admitted he’s already had some pre-show jitters for the awards bash, which airs Sunday, July 22 at 8 PM on FOX.

“I woke up the other day, I’m like, ‘Oh God! It’s live!” he laughed.

The actor and some of his fellow Gleeks actually hosted the show previously, but this time around it’s just a two person job.

“We did it before — a couple of guys from the show and Katy Perry. We did it two years ago, but that was a lot more of us. It was like six of us, so we could split it between [us],” he said.

Kevin hit Comic-Con alongside his cast mates, including Jenna Ushkowitz (both spotted together cheering from the “Game of Thrones” panel audience on Friday), but they also were out promoting “Glee,” which returns this fall on FOX.

All of the main cast members are coming back (despite several graduations last season) and the two were happy over the news.

“The show wouldn’t be the same without everybody,” Kevin said.

“It’s a family, so if… one thing is missing, you’re like, ‘Where is everybody?’” Jenna added.

Kate Hudson joins the show this season for a guest arc, playing Rachel Berry’s dance teacher Cassandra July, while Sarah Jessica Parker will play the editor of Vogue.com (and encounter Kurt Hummel).

Artie and Tina’s story lines aren’t likely to cross with the two film stars, but Jenna said she and Kevin may need to stop by during filming.

“We will end up on set those days, and be like, ‘I’m working today, right?’” she laughed.

'Big Brother' 2010 Season 12 Spoilers- 'Big Brother 12' Week 1 Premiere: Let the Games Begin

CBS’ voyeuristic reality show , Big Brother 12, premiered on Thursday night, with a twist that will change the game like no other season. With 52 cameras and 95 microphones dominating their closed quarters , the 13 Big Brother 12 houseguests are under surveillance 24/7. And with a “secret saboteur” thrown into the mix for 2010, this season’s Big Brother should prove to produce even more fireworks than seasons past. So who are this season’s houseguests- and who is the first Big Brother 12 Head of Household?

Meet the Houseguests

The Big Brother 12 cast consists of the usual, attractive twentysomethings with a few (very few) houseguests over the age of 30. Here is who is in the Big Brother 12 house:

Rachel, age 26- cocktail waitress

Kristen, age 24- boutique manager

Britney, age 22- hotel sales manager

Monet, age 24- model

Hayden, college student

Brendan, age 30- high school swim coach

Andrew, age 39- podiatrist, Orthodox Jew

Enzo, age 32- insurance adjuster (married)

Kathy age 40, deputy sheriff

Annie, age 27- bisexual bartender

Matt, age 32, married, web designer,

Lane, 24- oil rig salesman

Ragan, age 34- bow-tie wearing college professor

When it comes time for the Big Brother 12 houseguests to introduce themselves, a few tell some lies. Andrew, the Jewish podiatrist, fibs and says he recently lost his job and is a day trader. Ragan, a college professor, also lies and says he is a communications student. And for some reason Annie decides to keep her bisexuality a secret.

The Secret Saboteur Twist

Next up, host Julie Chen reveals this season’s big twist: there is a secret saboteur living in the Big Brother house. The saboteur is not in the game to win it. Instead, the mission is to wreak as much havoc in the house as possible. And if he or she makes it to the halfway point (5 weeks) he/she will get $50,000. Doesn’t sound like a deal to me. If he/she makes it to the end, wouldn’t they get half a mil? Oh well, go figure.

In any event, as soon as the secret saboteur announcement is made, Brendan starts looking fishy. And the HG’s notice that Lane is being awfully quiet. And Enzo gets an awful lot of airtime predicting who he thinks the saboteur is. But there are a few people I’d rule out right away. Rachel, the Vegas redhead, is too obvious. No way is she the Sab. Unless the Sab’s sole mission is to drive the houseguests crazy with the most annoying laugh ever!

Week 1 Head of Household Competition

Because there are 13 houseguests, one person must volunteer to sit out and be the mascot for the first Head of Household competition of the season. Andrew readily volunteers, prompting suspicion among some of the others. As mascot, he gets to wear a lovely hotdog costume. Oh, one other thing: Andrew is told he is safe from the first eviction of the season. RED FLAG.

The HOH competition consists of a big grill setup and giant wieners, which the houseguests must hang on to to get across to the other side of the platform. There are prizes involved- the first person across gets $10,000 while the last person is crowned HOH.

During the competition, Britney falls and hurt sher knee. Mascot/podiatrist Andrew feels terrible because he can’t help her (he lied about his occupation, remember?). Monet thinks Britney could be the Sab and is faking her injury.

A medic comes in and determines that Britney should sit out the rest of the completion, so the other team votes Kristen to take her place. Britney feels like a pathetic weak link though, saying, “I lost my dignity on a slippery wiener.” I’m not making this stuff up, folks.

Kristen sails across the platform nicely, while Kathy has wiener issues, falling off every time.

In the end, hunky Hayden is HOH. Monet wins the $10,000.

Julie Chen tells America that they will be in on the Saboteur’s missions. A visit to CBS.com is the place to send your saboteur ideas and see the assortment of items the Sab will have at his/her disposal.

The Saboteur Strikes

Just as Hayden is basking in his HOH victory, all of the lights go out in the house. For some reason Brendan ventures off to get his toothbrush and toothpaste in the pitch black. And Andrew decides to roll around on the floor. When the lights go on, these guys are suspect.

A final message from the saboteur reveals that he/she has locked the storeroom door where all the food and supplies are kept (hello, slop!). And a dire warning, “Sleep with one eye open’.

Next Thursday during the first Big Brother 12 live eviction show, the identity of the secret saboteur will be revealed to America. But the houseguests will still be in the dark- perhaps even literally.

The next episode of Big Brother 12 will air on Sunday night at 8:00 PM ET/PT on CBS.

What Makes a Good Website

Elements of Good Website Design

Here are the qualities that describe the anatomy of a great website. These tips have been garnered from my own understanding and from many wise webmaster souls, who have gladly shared their ‘webdom’ with me. Read and gather what you can.

Original and Trustworthy Content Original content is the soul of a good website. Website content development is the single most important task you must focus on. You need to offer something new or original, if you want people to visit your site. Internet is a sea of data, information and opinions. People come on the Internet for various reasons and one primary reason out of them is for information.

So if you offer the viewers, ready and credible information or specialized knowledge of any kind, they are going to visit your site and also probably bookmark it, to come back later. If your information is specialized and detailed, there is more probability of search engines taking notice of your site. The website content should be well presented and the quality of your articles should be good. Bad grammar and typos are a big turn offs! Updating information and content is also very important. Users like to have up-to-date information. The bottom line is- ‘Original Content is the King!’ Original and regularly updated specialized content makes a great website.

Decide A Target Audience For Your SiteBefore even beginning the website design, decide who your target audience or viewers are. That will help you in creating and presenting your content accordingly. If you give what your target users want and make it presentable, the likelihood of getting viewers, will definitely increase. Create your own ‘Specialized Niche’ in the Internet landscape and your site will thrive. See the demand in the market and fulfill it!

Let Your Content be Browser IndependentIf you stick to standard HTML code, your site will have uniform appearance in all web browsers. If you use HTML features provided by any specific browser, chances are that your site will not look good in other browsers. So make your site browser independent. With the advent of 3G technology, internet surfing on mobile phones is a reality. You need to design a site which can be easily viewed even on a mobile phone browser. Test your site on various browsers and especially Lynx web browser before making it live.

Minimal Loading TimeAn extended loading time is a big turn off for most users. Your site will be viewed by many around the world with varying internet bandwidths. Design your site in such a way that it takes minimum loading time. Users prefer fast loading sites.

A Catchy Domain NameRegister for a domain name which is catchy and easy to remember. Let it be short and be such that it captures the idea behind your site. Think big when you are designing your site. Who knows? One day the domain name may become a brand!

Interlinking Among Pages is ImportantMore the interlinking between pages on your site, and linking from other sites to your pages, more is the possibility of your web page getting ranked on the first page of the Google search engine and other ones.

Use Minimal GraphicsThe web crawlers make search engine submissions of your site for indexing them in their database. The search engine crawlers that visit your site, once in a while, with the purpose of indexing, give more importance to the text than the graphics. High usage of graphics prolongs the loading time of pages.

Have a Site Map and Internal Search FacilityOrganize your site well and let there be a site map which helps the user to get an outline of all the information available. When the data on your site in enormous, it’s a good idea to have a search facility to look for specific content.

User-Friendly, Interactive and Easily NavigableThe site should have a pleasing graphic feel. Take care that you choose colors which are not too harsh on the eyes. Let the webpage design and access features be user-friendly and most importantly, simple. A user must be able to navigate easily from one page of a site to the other. Users like an interactive environment on the site. Let there be a facility for commenting on articles and other features that get the user involved in the site.

Use a Secure Server and Analyze Your TrafficUse a secure web server with capacity to handle large traffic on your site. Let the site design have room for expansion in the future. Make sure that you make a backup of all your site data. Do not compromise your site’s security for low cost web hosting. Take no chances in making your site secure from crackers. Obtain and analyze the web traffic to your website taking help from sites that offer web analytic. Think about strategies that can increase website traffic and make the necessary programmatic changes in your site.

Place Advertisements SparinglyThanks to Internet advertising, as it has provided many people with an extra source of income from sites. Everyone wants revenue from our web pages and placing advertisements is essential but take care that advertisements are not the only thing on your site! Let the ads be relevant and subtly placed around content. The advertisements should be around the content and not the other way round!

Search Engine Optimization! The last but the most important and often underestimated part is search engine optimization (SEO)! Even if your site is extremely good, if search engines do not take a notice of it and it does not get a search engine ranking, it is of no use! Search engine optimization is a bunch of intricate techniques that help in making your content more visible to search engines (read Google) and help in getting a good ranking in search results. It also includes marketing of your site, so that it reaches a wider audience. Study and follow search engine optimization techniques without compromising in any way on the quality of your content.

A combination of all the factors implemented here, will lead to a good website. Even if you include all these factors in your site, bringing in traffic and getting hits will take time. Understand how Internet search engines work and apply the knowledge to improve your site ranking. Keep putting in good content, which is optimized for search engines. Have faith and a lot of patience! Also keep improving and making your site better.

ESX Welcomes Newtown, Conn., Police Chief Michael Kehoe

NASHVILLE, Tenn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Electronic Security Expo (ESX) proudly welcomes Newtown, Conn., Police Chief Michael Kehoe as the featured speaker of its Industry IceBreaker Luncheon, held Tuesday, June 18 at 12:00 p.m.

“We’re extremely proud to welcome Chief Kehoe to ESX’s Industry IceBreaker Luncheon”

In times of tragedy — as we were reminded in Boston — our public safety officials react. And in December 2012, Police Chief Michael Kehoe had the extremely difficult job of reacting to an elementary school scene that no one could have imagined.

“This day — that scene—will always be present in my mind,” he told CBS News.

With compassion and incredible poise, he led the town, the community and the nation through the somber days that followed.

“Now we’re a little bit stronger. We’re a little bit wiser,” he told WFSB News’ Robert Goulston in February. “No matter how tough it gets out there, we’re here to help and we’re here to serve and we’ll do what we can.”

During the luncheon that moves the partnership between public safety and private security forward, we ask: How do we best work together? How do we best equip our public safety officials to respond to danger?

“We’re extremely proud to welcome Chief Kehoe to ESX’s Industry IceBreaker Luncheon,” says ESX Chair George De Marco. “I look forward to hearing his thoughts on how the public and private safety sectors can work together to protect our most precious assets: our families — our children.”

Kehoe, who has been the Newtown, Conn., Police Chief since 2001, is chairman of the Statewide Narcotics Task Force Policy Board, a member of the Connecticut Coalition for Drug Endangered Children, and the board co-chair of the Newtown Prevention Council.

“I’m glad to participate in the Industry IceBreaker Luncheon at ESX this June,” says Chief Kehoe. “It’s important that we in the public and private safety sectors continue to find new ways to work together to help secure and protect our communities.”

Chief Kehoe has also served as the president of the Fairfield County’s Chiefs of Police Association and served on the board of directors of the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association as vice president.

The Industry IceBreaker Luncheon will host the presentation of the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC) William N. Moody Award, which will recognize a volunteer who has demonstrated exemplary leadership and dedication in maximizing false dispatch reduction across North America, as well as the 2012 PDQ Award, presented by Security Sales and Integration magazine, which recognizes the security company that best demonstrates a proactive and cooperative effort to reduce unnecessary alarm dispatches.

It is also home to the ESA Youth Scholarship Award, sponsored by Vivint, who has contributed a donation of $10,000. These added funds, matching the existing donation of ESA, will allow the association to award $10,000 to the first-place winner, $5,000 for second place, $3,500 for third and $1,500 for fourth.

The ESX Industry IceBreaker Luncheon is sponsored by Security Sales and Integration magazine.
